This period property was suffering from a series of poor quality piecemeal extensions. Although adding space they did nothing to create the family living space desired by the new owners. The design brief was to replace these elements with a large light-filled open plan space which would create a social kitchen opening onto the garden. The glazed gable extension fulfils the brief with a series of rooflights bringing light into the kitchen space from above.
